Natalia Borčić

Natalia Borčić was born on the island of Vis in 1989. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 2013. She is a member of the Croatian Academy of Fine Arts and the Croatian Society of Artists. She has exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad and has participated in several artist residencies. At the 7th Biennial of Painting, she received the award “Young Artist of the 7th Biennial of Paintingand the awardKontrapukt Award Vladimir Dodig Trokut, Iva VranekovićArtists to Artists“. Her artistic work is part of the project “Island Connectin which she presents her workIslands as a Military Fortressin which she explores the similarities and differences of the military legacy of the island of Vis with the islands of Tenerife, Corsica and Ireland. She lives and works between Zagreb and Vis.

Projects

In 2020, I created the project “In Third Gear” through which I conduct art workshops inHomes for the Elderly and Disabled in Zagreb and Vis.

Since 2021, I have been collaborating with the association “Svima” where I conduct art workshops with children with special needs.

In 2015 and 2016, I organized the project “Art in Lighthouses” in which, in collaboration withthe military navy, I organized group exhibitions at the lighthouse on Palagruža.

My painting narrative does not arise only from the motifs of Vis landscapes, but from sediment – here, the landscape is not viewed, but immersed in. It becomes a medium of introspective understanding, a scene of what remains after the space disappears: a feeling, a trace, an echo.
